Romanian singer and songwriter KARMA experienced a severe accident in early May 2024, resulting in a bimalleolar fracture of her left foot. The injury necessitated two surgeries, leaving her unable to walk for the past two months.
KARMA is currently undergoing a recovery process, including a series of kinetotherapy sessions scheduled for the coming week. When asked about her recovery journey and her current condition, KARMA shared her thoughts and feelings on the challenging experience.
BM: How are you feeling right now?
Currently, I am feeling great. I have started my recovery and now I am able to walk on both feet. Even though there is still some pain, I always remind myself that when I feel like I can't go on, I can push a little further and I always try to stay positive. It has been a tough period for me, both physically and mentally, as I have struggled a lot with negative thoughts, which I have tried to overcome with rationality. There were moments when I thought I might never walk properly again or that I had so many things to do that I had to put on hold. The physical pain has often been intense, and the emotional toll of dealing with limitations and setbacks has been significant. However, each small milestone in my recovery has brought immense joy and motivation. I have learned to celebrate every bit of progress, no matter how small, and to be patient with myself. I am also incredibly grateful for the support from my family and friends during this time; their encouragement has been a significant source of strength.
BM: How long does the recovery process take?
The process is quite lengthy. After the first surgery, I had to stay in bed for six weeks, only able to move around using a walking frame, hopping on one leg. After those six weeks, I had the second surgery, and after that, I was allowed to start using my operated leg and walk normally. However, it is still challenging because I can’t put much weight on the broken leg and still rely on the frame. I am now undergoing physical therapy sessions that help restore mobility to my leg and teach me to walk correctly again, which can take up to a month of therapy. Even so, time is passing very quickly, and I am happy that I will soon be able to return to normal 100%. After the first surgery, the present seemed very far away, but here I am, able to walk on two legs again, and soon I will no longer need the help of the walking frame or support crutches.
BM: Will you be able to walk properly soon?
Yes, and I can’t wait to be able to give up using the walking frame or the crutches. I think it will be a special moment for me when I see myself walking normally without any assistance. I believe this will happen in about a month, a month and a half, but as I said, time passes quickly, and I will recover very soon.
Once I am fully recovered, I am looking forward to getting back to my normal activities and pursuing new projects with renewed energy. This experience has given me a new perspective on life, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
BM: Should we expect a near-future music release from you?
Yes, definitely. During this entire period, I've been thinking about what I will release next. Most likely, I will release a new single in autumn, which I started working on even before the incident. The song will be called "Da-mi înapoi", and it will be a bit different from what I usually do, but I want to experiment in the upcoming period, so stay tuned.
In addition to “Da-mi înapoi,” I am also planning a series of projects that will explore different musical styles and themes. This journey has given me a fresh perspective, and I can’t wait to bring these new ideas to life. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you enjoy what’s coming next!
We look forward to seeing her fully recovered and thriving, ready to take on new challenges and share her music with the world. Stay tuned for her upcoming projects and join us in supporting her on this remarkable journey.
